Skills Bootcamps for Facilitators and Experts with Lived Experience

Our 6-Week bootcamps are designed to provide learners with the skills they need to present Oliver McGowan Tier 2 sessions, either as an Expert with Lived Experience or a Facilitator.

Through 12 in-person sessions, we look at a range of topics such as presentation skills, script writing, and giving and recieving constructive feedback.

Additionally, we aim to have all learners employed or upskilled by the end of the 6 weeks, so we provide support around CV writing, interview skills, and accessible hiring processes.

Expert with Lived Experience Bootcamp

Experts with Lived Experience are individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or a Learning Disability. Oliver McGowan Tier 2 sessions should be delivered alongside two Experts.

Through the bootcamp, Experts learn how to share their experiences, like the challenges and successes they have faced throughout their life. We also provide 1-to-1 support to create or update CV's and discuss what reasonable adjustments would enable them to present their session or move into employment, if they are not currently employed.

Facilitator Bootcamp

An Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Facilitator supports Experts to deliver their session, providing resources, putting reasonable adjustments in place, and presenting other aspects of the Tier 2 session

Although the content covered is similar to the Expert's bootcamp, Facilitators learn how to present the training fluidly and have added responsibility around safeguarding, welfare, and organisation. To reflect this, the course focuses more intensively on aspects like legislation and procedure.

What Are Skills Bootcamps For?

Our 'Expert with Lived Experience' and 'Facilitator' bootcamps aim to equip people with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to deliver Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training effectively.

The second aim is to get
unemployed people into work, or get employed individuals up-skilled and given extra responsibilities in the workplace.

By achieving these core objectives, learners have been able to
increase and evidence their transferable skills, including self-understanding, digital skills, and independence.

"The Oliver McGowan Boot Camp Training was incredibly helpful. I felt supported not only by the trainers but also by the other participants, which made the experience even more valuable. I gained essential skills in presenting and facilitating, and deepened my understanding of British values, GDPR, safeguarding, and reasonable adjustments. The job coaching was especially beneficial - it kept me focused and helped me navigate the workbooks with confidence. I’d love to do the training again. It was a truly positive and empowering experience."
